Possible areas of application

The possible applications of a simulation-based design tool through to the digital twin are very diverse. Based on our many years of experience in CFD services and software implementation based on OpenFOAM, we have compiled a list of typical fields of application.

Do you have similar requirements for a CFD model as in our application scenarios?

This is how it works:

Based on our many years of experience with the open-source CFD solver OpenFOAM and our extensive software extensions for preprocessing, monitoring and postprocessing, we have developed a new web browser-based simulation approach that makes CFD revolutionarily simple:

Optimization with CFD for everyone : no matter when or from where!

Your advantages

Faster and more cost-effective than you might think:

With our technology, simple digital tools can be realized very quickly, typically within 2-3 weeks. For complex problems, a large parameter space to be verified or intensive validation with experiments and model optimizations, a creation time of a few months can be expected. However, the digital tools can also continue to grow: for example, we can provide you with a basic model very quickly and the parameter space can be expanded in further steps.

Overall, our simulation-based design tools and digital twins provide you with very cost-effective CFD modelling:

Our main aim is to make the application of CFD as simple as possible. As a result, these methods can be used by a much broader range of users and can be used in a targeted manner to clarify specific issues.

Efficient implementation of an individual simulation tool

We have developed a system that makes it possible to very quickly transfer a developed basic model for a CFD process into an automated workflow. The necessary elements such as CAD processing, meshing and scripting are put together modularly for your application.

Thanks to our many years of experience in CFD simulation and the development of preprocessing solutions for open source solvers, we can draw on tried-and-tested and reliable modular elements.

No license costs for simulation with open source solvers

We implement your workflow with open source solvers that do not incur any license costs for the simulation. The solution options, computing speed and quality of results are comparable, in some cases even better than with typical high-end CFD solvers.

You won't feel the disadvantage of the difficult usability of these open source solvers for non-CFD experts: as experts with the systems, we implement your workflow so easily that you only have to specify technical parameters and geometry.

Affordable on-demand resources from the cloud

Especially if you only need simulation resources sporadically in individual project phases, we can set up your workflow so that you only have hardware costs then. Here, for example, we have various cloud providers or providers for dedicated servers at our disposal.

Linux systems are also the first choice for efficient multi-processor simulation. The administration of Linux systems would be very time-consuming, especially for small companies. With the CFD tools we provide, the automated workflow means you don't have to worry about managing computer resources.

Flexible pricing models

In general, we offer various price models for the use of the implemented simulation tools:

  • For example, you can commission us to develop your digital twin once, install it on your servers and continue to operate the tool without any follow-up costs.
  • Another option would be for us to provide you with the calculation system largely on a pay-per-use basis, so that you only have to make a very small investment and can allocate the costs directly to the simulations carried out in the project.

We are happy to offer you your digital twin at a flexible price model of your choice.

Funding opportunities

The implementation costs for digitalization, such as a digital twin of your process, are currently being heavily subsidized. In Germany, such projects are strongly supported by the federal states, but we are also happy to work with you on an EU project.

Please contact us if you are interested in a jointly funded project.

We create a customized digital tool for your application

As part of an initial project, we create a basic model for your application. We optimize the calculation methods for your application and, if necessary, compare them with experiments. The model is optimized in terms of speed, accuracy and stability. Variant calculations in the later parameter range are also taken into account.

Once the basic model has been created, the simulation process is automated and implemented in a customized digital tool. You specify which parameters (e.g. volume flows) are to be used as input parameters and how the geometry is to be created, e.g. by uploading a CAD geometry or as a simple parametric geometry.

In general, we have a wide range of different implementation options, e.g. in relation to the input data provided by you or we can use various meshing options, for example. This gives you the optimum workflow for your issue with the best possible implementation. This individual digital twin of your process is made available only to you.

Your automated simulation tool is provided via a browser interface.

Your specifications for the variable parameters of your simulation cases are implemented by us, so that at the end you receive an input mask with the option to upload additional data such as geometry or other simulation parameters.

You then simply log in to the server via the web interface with your browser, update your simulation parameters and the simulation can start. The entire simulation environment is provided as a service (Software as a service, SaaS).

You decide how the simulation should run

For example, you can choose between a single calculation and a series calculation. A series calculation is interesting, for example, if you want to determine different operating points, e.g. the pressure loss at different volume flows.

You can also decide whether you want to run the simulation on the local system or on an external hardware resource.

You can monitor and manipulate the simulation process.

The simulation process is displayed on request. You can check certain monitoring points such as pressures, speeds and temperatures.

You also have the option of interrupting the simulation if you want to correct input parameters, for example.

The relevant results are extracted from the calculations.

The data that is important to you is determined directly from the simulation. This can be, for example, pressure/flow characteristics, temperature curves or separation curves.

Results can also be generated as image files (e.g. contour or vector plots) on predefined sections. It is also possible to download the results in full and analyze them further on site.

If desired, the creation of an automated report with all important input parameters and results can also be integrated into the workflow.

We support you with questions and problems

Our workflows are adapted to your needs and knowledge so that you can work with them completely independently after a short introduction.

Nevertheless, you may need support, e.g. if our fluidic know-how is required, the results need to be interpreted and further optimization strategies need to be derived.

We are at your disposal for any support or discussion of results, e.g. via the MS teams, and will help you to clarify the questions that are decisive for you.

You want to use simulation methods efficiently as a design tool for your product

You manufacture a product in which flow processes are a key functional feature. You would like to create a digital twin for this product, e.g. to avoid expensive experiments or to be able to react more quickly to special customer requirements.

You don't want to use an expensive CFD tool or familiarize yourself with the complexities of simulation methods, but simply need a CFD implementation for your specific product.

Our solution: We create an automated workflow for your product or process that allows you to determine the target values quickly and easily. You do not need any CFD knowledge for the application, nor do you have to worry about hardware issues.

You would like to provide your design department with a tool for directly checking design variants.

Design departments often have years of experience in the design of functional products. However, this experience is often insufficient or is lost when an employee leaves the company. This is particularly true in times of high staff turnover or when long-serving employees retire.

Conventional CFD methods are also rarely used for design, as the application is considered too complex for designers. On the other hand, CFD experts are currently hard to find and are more difficult to integrate into the direct design process due to their specialisation.

With our design tools, we offer you the use of CFD methods that are particularly easy to use so that your designers can focus on their core tasks.

Your sales department needs a design tool for your product in order to be able to respond quickly to individual customer inquiries.

Parameters such as pressure losses, local velocities, maximum temperatures or even separation efficiencies are often decisive for pre-dimensioning. Often this data is already required when preparing a quotation for a customer-specific process.

A design tool for your process that provides this data can be designed by us so simply that only the operating conditions need to be entered. The results can be delivered cost-effectively through automation, eliminating the need for expensive and time-consuming preliminary studies. Your sales department can generate the quotation-specific data itself and convince potential customers with a well-founded analysis during the quotation phase.

You want to offer your customers a tool in the cloud as a service to make the best use of your products.

Some products only develop their full potential if the operating conditions are optimally selected. One example is determining the best position for an air purifier in a room in order to achieve the best cleaning result. You can provide your customers with a tool via a web interface that supports them in using your products. Such a service demonstrates your expertise and strengthens customer loyalty.

You want to automate and standardize an important design process for your product and make it available to several developers as a simulation tool.

If simulations are carried out manually by different employees, different solution settings or even grid resolutions can influence the results. By automating the process, you achieve standardization, which also significantly reduces the effort required to carry out the simulation. This is particularly recommended for frequently recurring calculations or if many different developers carry out these simulations for a process.

You need a simulation-based database for product or process optimisation using modern methods (such as AI or neural networks).

You want to use advanced optimization methods such as artificial intelligence or neural networks for your product. To do this, you need a database that covers your parameter space. Depending on how many free parameters there are for the process, this may require a large number of simulation variants. These can only be created efficiently in an automated process.

Our automated workflows already include the option of series calculation. By using cloud resources for the simulation, this database can be built up quickly.

We support you in the selection of the optimization process and implement it for your application.

You want to use a CFD tool to generate a database for a digital twin, e.g. to control a process.

Process data that is made available via an automated transfer process can serve as input for our automated workflows. For example, new operating points in a process can be determined numerically, which can be used in conjunction with an already generated database to control a process.

Variant analyses allow you to analyze critical operating states in the digital twin in advance and integrate avoidance strategies into the real process. You can also use your current process data in conjunction with the digital twin for predictive maintenance.

Communication with the digital twin can take place via a cloud service over the Internet, for example, or be integrated into the company's own network.
