Digital tool: Heat treatment of titanium components

Comparison simulation experiment: temperature curves and cooling rates

Animation of the cooling process

Background:

When titanium components cool down during heat treatment, strong deformations occur due to creep processes.

Objectives:

A simulation tool is to be developed that can predict the temperature distribution in the component in an automated process. The determined transient temperature fields are to be used for a creep analysis with an external FE solver.

Challenges:

Complex transient heat transport process with a variety of transport mechanisms (natural convection, radiation, heat conduction and energy release through structural transformation) on long time scales.

Solution approach:

Application:

Use as a prediction and optimisation tool for heat treatment processes
