Digital Tool: Deposition of particles on the microscale

Background:

When analysing filters on the component scale, the resistance characteristic, i.e. the increase in pressure when the filter is loaded, is an important input variable. This can only be determined by a detailed analysis on the microscale.

Target variables:

Determination of the resistance or the pressure-volume flow characteristic when loading a filter structure with polydisperse particles.

Challenges:

Complex workflow with flow and particle simulation on different grids (Chimera approach) and topology change due to deposited particles (grid adaptation). The entire simulation can therefore only be carried out efficiently in an automated process.

Solution approach:

Model validation: calculation of the pressure loss at the monodisperse packing with different methods
